Pistachio and Walnut Olive Tapenade

This is THE recipe to bring to your holiday parties. It’s smooth, savoury, so fresh and highly addictive. Olives, pistachios and walnuts are processed with fresh basil, lemon juice, cayenne pepper and pink himalayan salt to make this stellar Pistachio and Walnut Olive Tapenade that you’ll want to make again and again. Fresh basil is always a staple in my kitchen. While it has the perfect aromatic flavour, basil is also known for its medicinal benefits. Basil acts principally on the digestive and nervous systems, easing gas and stomach cramps and preventing or relieving nausea and vomiting. Basil is also mildly sedative and has been found to be helpful in treating nervous irritability and fatigue, depression, anxiety and insomnia. Cayenne pepper, made from dried and ground red chili peppers, is another herb that I love using at this time of year. Cayenne is rich in vitamins A and C, helping to support the immune system, and is a warming circulatory stimulant, providing a safe and effective tonic for the heart and support for the digestive system. Serve the tapenade with fresh vegetables, including celery, carrots, cucumbers, radishes, and/or crackers. I hope you’ll enjoy this recipe!

Pistachio Walnut Tapenade
Serves 10
This Pistachio Walnut Tapenade recipe is the perfect appetizer to serve with fresh vegetables and healthy crackers.

  1. 2 cups raw sun dried olives or black olives
  2. 1 cup raw pistachios, shelled
  3. 1 cup raw walnuts
  4. ½ - 1 cup fresh basil
  5. 2 garlic cloves
  6. 1 shallot, peeled
  7. ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
  8. Juice of 1 lemon
  9. ½ cup extra virgin olive oil
  10. Pinch of pink himalayan salt and black pepper, to taste
  1. In a food processor, pulse the olives, nuts, basil, garlic, shallot, cayenne and lemon juice to combine well. Stop to scrape down the sides of the bowl, as needed. Continue to process the mixture until it’s pureed.
  2. Add the olive oil and continue to process until everything is thoroughly combined.
  3. Season with salt and black pepper, to taste.
  4. Serve with fresh vegetables and/or crackers. Enjoy!
