Wild Blueberry Ashwagandha Smoothie

Wild blueberry season is here and we’re enjoying it to the max! Whether adding them to smoothies, topping off yogurt, desserts or eating them by the handful, we love these antioxidant-rich berries. Blueberries are also considered a brain-boosting food since they contain a high amount of phenols, particularly gallic acid, which are known as neuro-protective agents that can help protect our brains from degeneration, neurotoxicity and oxidative stress. 

We like to pack in as many healthy nutrients as possible into our smoothies. In addition to blueberries, we’ve added frozen cauliflower, almond butter, coconut milk and ashwagandha powder to this vibrant blend. Ashwagandha powder is a superfood we love to keep in our cupboards. Ashwagandha is an adaptogen, which are a classification of herbs that help regulate your response to stress or a changing environment. Adaptogens help the body adapt to external stresses like toxins in the body and internal stresses such as anxiety, depression and insomnia. We find ashwaganha helps to give us an overall sense of calm to start the day.

An antioxidant-rich smoothie made with wild blueberries, frozen cauliflower and ashwagandha powder.

Ingredients
  1. 1/3 - 1/2 cup wild blueberries
  2. 1/2 cup frozen cauliflower
  3. 1 tbsp almond butter or other nut butter or tahini
  4. 1 cup coconut milk or nut milk
  5. 1 tsp ashwagandha powder
Optional toppings
  1. Matcha Latte Coconut Chips
  2. Edible flowers
Instructions
  1. Add all ingredients into a high-speed blender and blend until smooth.
  2. Top the smoothie off with Matcha Latte Coconut Chips and edible flowers, if desired!
Notes
  1. Feel free to add a handful of kale to boost the smoothie's nutrient power.
