FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What are superfoods and why do you use them?
Superfoods are nutrient-dense, functional foods that are beneficial for your overall health and immunity. While there is no official criteria for what foods attain superfood status, usually they have exceptionally high antioxidant power, are rich in fiber, a rich source of one or more vitamins or minerals, or have some unique beneficial plant chemical that can’t be found elsewhere. We incorporate superfoods in our products that are not typically eaten in the average diet. These include matcha, raw cacao powder, cinnamon, turmeric, nutritional yeast, and activated sunflower seeds.
What are “activated” sunflower seeds?
Our Smoky Cheeze and Rockin’ Ranch coconut chip flavours are made with activated sunflower seeds that have been soaked for 10 hours. The term “activated”, in this context, means that the seeds have been soaked in water for a period of time. Soaking the seeds removes enzyme inhibitors so that the seeds can germinate. This kickstarts the sprouting process of the seeds, increasing the nutrient value and breaking down the naturally occurring chemicals that affect digestibility and absorption.
In other words, with sprouted seeds, you get the maximum absorption and digestion of nutrients!
What is a dehydrator?
A dehydrator is a kitchen tool that uses low temperatures and a fan to remove moisture from food. By using a dehydrator, the water from the coconut is removed, allowing the coconut chips to get super crunchy, while ensuring the enzymes and nutrients aren’t cooked off due to heat.
Are all your products vegan?
Yes, all of our products are certified vegan (even our Smoky Cheeze Superfood Coconut Chips)! We created our dairy-free "cheezy" taste using a delicious blend of turmeric, nutritional yeast, spices, and natural hickory smoke flavour.
Are all your products nut-free?
Yes! None of our products contain nuts, and are made in our dedicated nut-free facility in Etobicoke, that’s also free from the top 11 allergens, including peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, milk, mustard, crustaceans, fish, sesame seeds, soy, sulphites & wheat.
P.S. Coconut is not actually a nut, but a drupe, which is a type of fruit.
Are all your products gluten-free?
Yes! None of our products contain gluten, and are made in a gluten-free facility.
Are all your products organic?
Yes! All our products are Certified Organic by ECOCERT.
Are your products GMO-free?
Yes! All our products are NON-GMO Project Verified.
Are all your products raw?
Yes, our products are raw (it's proudly in the our name). Our coconut chips are dehydrated at 115°F for optimal nutrition and flavour so the enzymes and nutrients remain intact. While there are differing opinions, food is generally considered to be raw if it's not heated above 118°F.
Some of the ingredients we use are not considered raw. The coconut aminos, soy-free seasoning, and nutritional yeast used in the Smoky Cheeze and Rockin’ Ranch flavours are pasteurized.
What kind of sweeteners do you use?
At Rawcology, we avoid unrefined sweeteners in favour of natural, whole, low-glycemic sweeteners. Only our Matcha Latte and Chocolate coconut chip flavours contain added sweetener. We use raw coconut nectar and coconut sugar because they are more nutrient-dense, and contain potassium, magnesium, zinc, and iron.
Coconut nectar and coconut sugar are rated the lowest sweeteners in the Glycemic Index at 35, compared to honey and maple syrup both at 55, and refined cane sugar at 70. We strive to keep our products low in sugar, with most flavours only containing 1 gram of sugar per 30 gram serving.

What makes your coconut chips the best?
Rawcology coconut chips are unlike any others on the market because of our unique flavour profiles and production process. We make our chips in small batches, with premium and functional ingredients. Like all our products, these chips are a raw, organic snack, meaning they are dehydrated at a low temperature to ensure optimal nutrition and flavour. We use only high quality, certified organic, and allergen-friendly ingredients. We incorporate different superfoods into our coconut chips to ensure that every bite is packed with functional ingredients, so you can feel good indulging in our healthy and organic coconut snack.
Why coconut chips?
Coconut is a powerhouse ingredient: It’s rich in fiber, packed with immune-enhancing properties, and is an excellent source of healthy fats and medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). MCTs are easily converted into energy, and used as fuel by the body, and increase levels of beneficial HDL cholesterol. Healthy fats are critical for energy levels, brain health, and balancing hormones. Coconuts are a source of vitamin C, vitamin E and B-vitamins in addition to minerals, including potassium, magnesium, manganese, calcium, iron, copper, zinc, and selenium.
Where do you get your coconut from?
We work with a supplier in California that ethically sources certified organic coconut from Sri Lanka.
Where do you manufacture your products?
Our production facility is located in Toronto, Ontario.
